Key Details:
The Trump Administration has imposed tariffs on goods coming from China/Hong Kong, Canada, and Mexico. Under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), these tariffs will be in effect startingĀ 12:01am ET on February 4, 2025.
Below are the exemptions for these additional duties:
- Products that were in transit before February 1, 2025, and entered for consumption between February 4 and March 7, 2025.
- Donations from U.S. persons, such as food, clothing, and medicine, intended to relieve human suffering.
- Informational materials including publications, films, posters, records, photographs, microfilms, tapes, CDs, artworks, and news feeds.
- Personal used items in accompanied baggage
As of 4pm (PST), Feb. 3rd, 2025, the additional duty application has been paused for both Mexico and Canada.
De Minimis Rule Update:
Effective February 4, 2025, products from China and Hong Kong are no longer eligible for the de minimis (duty-free) exemption under 19 U.S.C. Ā§ 1321(a)(2)(C). Importers attempting to claim de minimis clearance for ineligible shipments will be rejected. Importers must file a formal or informal entry, and goods are subject to all applicable duties, taxes, and fees.
